Christian Family Health Care Centers
Diana M Bridges MD
Christian Family Health Care Centers was developed to provide the needed services for patients who were uninsured and lacked the financial ability to obtain health care. I provided services which at times were paid with in-kind services, fruits, and even prayers. I was working at a time when major health care changes were establishing and manage care was making its way as a means to provide health care for everyone but unfortunately there was still a gap of affordability. I tried to fill in that gap and negotiate lower fees from major laboratory companies, diagnostic x-ray referrals and even specialist referrals to make it affordable for my patients without health care insurance. My father was a strong believer in helping that in need and accepting whatever that person had to offer. He was a doctor of cars, plumbing, electrical etc. but when the job was complete, a great humanitarian. He rarely was paid for his services and so his kindness lives on.
It was suggested that I establish a nonprofit organization to obtain the necessary funding so I could focus primarily on my patients’ treatment and not worry about how they would pay for additional ancillary services. Many times I would receive mangos and oranges from my patients and to me that was what made me realize that people want to pay you something. In kind services sometimes was better than cash but it was never requested as a part of being treated, it was what patients wanted to do to show their appreciation for their treatment.
I would like to think of this organization as such described in the KJV 2 Corinthians Chapter 9 which reads as such
“12 For the administration of this service not only supplieth the want of the saints, but is abundant also by many thanksgivings unto God;
13 Whiles by the experiment of this ministration they glorify God for your professed subjection unto the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal distribution unto them, and unto all men;”
However we’re funded thanksgiving and glory belongs to God!
